The Mayfaire Art Show through the Wilmington Art Association was last weekend and it went great! It was about as successful as the Art for the Masses show. I sold 26 or so paintings and met so many wonderful people. I hope to see them all again someday. I'm really low on paintings now so I've got to get busy.

I painted this about a month ago plein air in the middle of a dirt road on Bald Head island. It was a beautiful day and the marsh was still green so I wanted to capture the bright colors and cool shadows cast by the trees. I had to keep moving my easel for golf carts to get by, but, it was still a relaxing place to paint

Nuclear Engineer 6 x8 This is my neighbor's car that only comes out of the garage on rare occassions. We have always tried to figure who he is and what he does. We decided that he is a nuclear engineer. Masonboro Inlet 8 x 10 Path to the Intracoastal 6 x 8 SOLD This was painted from a friends yard in the Masonboro Sound area on a brilliant sunny day. I loved the color of the cast shadows by the paths edge and tried to capture what I saw.

Corncake is the name of our boat and the inlet between Masonboro Island and Bald Head Island. It has actually filled in during recent hurricanes. I guess we should call it the pennisula formerly known as Bald Head Island. When we first bought this boat it was up on the hill at Charlie Perry's Boat yard for a few months so I took the opportunity to paint her.
Blue Crab - 8" x 10" - $150.00 SOLD

This was painted from a photo of a blue crab sitting on the ocean floor. I did another blue crab painting prior to this one from a photo of a crab on a dock and it didn't turn out as good. I think that it was because the poor thing was just flopped onto dry land by a fisherman and it's legs splayed out awkwardly. I kept feeling sorry for it and wanted to paint the next one in its natural environment. It has much more dignity and grace in the water.
Vespa 2 - 6" x 6" $100.00 - SOLD

This is the second of two little 6 x 6 vespa paintings that I did. The Italian government had a design contest after WWII for a low cost, fuel efficient form of transportation. The vespa won by a landslide - probably partly because of its beautiful proportions. Maybe that's why I love to paint them.

I just spent a week painting on Bald Head Island in an artist residence program with two other artists, Mike Rooney and Joanne Geisel. We rode around in a golf cart all week and painted different scenes that grabbed us. It was a lot of fun and I hope to go again soon. I got about 20 small paintings done outside that I'm going to post as I touch them up. This one looked fine in its original, untouched state so I went ahead and posted it, as is - Sometimes the best, freshest, paintings are the ones that you do spontaneously without laboring over. This is a small outbuilding between the Captain Charlie Houses and it was a beautiful sunny day.

$8 s/h to purchase click on the "buy now" button to pay using PayPal or credit card Sold This is a view of one of the old cottages on Bald Head Island as you first drive up to it on the driveway. This is a small study I did on location to get the beautiful colors and shadows on the roof and side of the house. The ocean is just beyond it over the crest of the hill and the light reflecting off the ocean lit up the side of the house wonderfully.
