WAA Mayfaire Art Show 2009

Image
The Mayfaire Art Show through the Wilmington Art Association was last weekend and it went great! It was about as successful as the Art for the Masses show. I sold 26 or so paintings and met so many wonderful people. I hope to see them all again someday. I'm really low on paintings now so I've got to get busy.

Rubber Duckie 5 x 7

Image
I painted this little rubber duckie that I bought yesterday just to get back in practice. I haven't been able to paint for about a week because of the Art Show at Mayfaire. I'll post pictures of the show next.

Bald Head Marsh Path 6 x 8 - SOLD

Image
I painted this about a month ago plein air in the middle of a dirt road on Bald Head island. It was a beautiful day and the marsh was still green so I wanted to capture the bright colors and cool shadows cast by the trees. I had to keep moving my easel for golf carts to get by, but, it was still a relaxing place to paint

Luna's swim 6 x 8

Image
Almost everyday in the summer I would walk my dog, Luna, down to the water and let her swim. It always makes her so happy that's hard to not get in a good mood just watching her.

Wrightsville Lifeguard Stand 9 x 12 $250 - SOLD

Image
This is another smaller version of the #8 lifeguard stand at Wrightsville Beach. I love the proportions of this simple structure and they remind me of beach walks in the evening after everyone has left and you can sit on them to rest.

Vespa 3 - 4 x 4

Image
I loved the red tartan plaid seat on this Vespa. I thought it was a beautiful contrast with the cool aqua color of the body.

Sailing Lessons in Banks Channel 6 x 8 $115 - SOLD

Image
Driving down Waynick Blvd., I always loved to see the Lasers and Sunfish sailboats in the channel on days that they taught classes. This painting is a reminder of those sunlit days. My Paypal button is coming soon, until then anything you see can be purchased through email. renamacqueen@ec.rr.com

VW at Wrightsville Beach - 6 x 8 $95 - SOLD

Image
I painted this one last night. I liked how it brought back memories of going to Wrightsville Beach before there were parking meters and traffic and you could park anywhere you wanted.

Art for the Masses

Image
This is my booth at the Art for the Masses show. I sold over 30 paintings (most before lunch) and met a lot of really nice people, so I was pleased. The next show is Mayfaire (old Sharper Image store) in 2 weeks (Dec. 4,5 and 6) so I've got a lot of painting to do before then.
Image
Blue Bottles 6 x 8 - This is a small still life that I set up and painted on a day that I didn't get outside to paint. I loved the way the light throughthe glass made interesting reflections on the tabletop.

paintings for Art for the Masses Show

Image
Little Goat 6 x 8 $115 SOLD Wyoming Barn 8 x 10 -  I did this painting in a workshop taught by John Poon (an artist out of Wyoming and then Utah) Intracoastal 9 x 12 - SOLD I did this painting in a Gavin Brooks workshop and was trying to paint just like her so this is "in the style of Gavin Brooks" . She is an amazing artist and taking her 3 day class was an amazing experience.
Image
Shandy Creek Boat 6 x 6 SOLD Peanut 5 x 7 SOLD I loved the way the sun lit up my cats whiskers and fur as he slept on my bed so I tried to paint the sunlight. Wilmington Tug 6 x 9

Nuclear Engineer 6 x8 This is my neighbor's car that only comes out of the garage on rare occassions. We have always tried to figure who he is and what he does. We decided that he is a nuclear engineer. Masonboro Inlet 8 x 10 Path to the Intracoastal 6 x 8 SOLD This was painted from a friends yard in the Masonboro Sound area on a brilliant sunny day. I loved the color of the cast shadows by the paths edge and tried to capture what I saw.

Some of Our Pets

Image
Big Bird 8 x 8 SOLD Luna at the Stern 8 x 11 SOLD Big Bird as a chick 4 x 6

Corncake at Charlies 9 x 12

Image
Corncake is the name of our boat and the inlet between Masonboro Island and Bald Head Island. It has actually filled in during recent hurricanes. I guess we should call it the pennisula formerly known as Bald Head Island. When we first bought this boat it was up on the hill at Charlie Perry's Boat yard for a few months so I took the opportunity to paint her.

"Booger" 6 x 8 $ 95 SOLD

Image
I painted this one at the waterfront in Southport. This is an old fishing boat that has always been there in that slip and the name on the side of the bow is "Booger" One day I'm going to have to ask them which one of you is Booger?

Blue Crab - 8" x 10" - $150.00 SOLD

Image
This was painted from a photo of a blue crab sitting on the ocean floor. I did another blue crab painting prior to this one from a photo of a crab on a dock and it didn't turn out as good. I think that it was because the poor thing was just flopped onto dry land by a fisherman and it's legs splayed out awkwardly. I kept feeling sorry for it and wanted to paint the next one in its natural environment. It has much more dignity and grace in the water.

Vespa 2 - 6" x 6" $100.00 - SOLD

Image
This is the second of two little 6 x 6 vespa paintings that I did. The Italian government had a design contest after WWII for a low cost, fuel efficient form of transportation. The vespa won by a landslide - probably partly because of its beautiful proportions. Maybe that's why I love to paint them.

Beach front tool shed - SOLD

Image
I just spent a week painting on Bald Head Island in an artist residence program with two other artists, Mike Rooney and Joanne Geisel. We rode around in a golf cart all week and painted different scenes that grabbed us. It was a lot of fun and I hope to go again soon. I got about 20 small paintings done outside that I'm going to post as I touch them up. This one looked fine in its original, untouched state so I went ahead and posted it, as is - Sometimes the best, freshest, paintings are the ones that you do spontaneously without laboring over. This is a small outbuilding between the Captain Charlie Houses and it was a beautiful sunny day.

Road to Captain Charlies - 6 x 8 - $50.00 - SOLD

Image
$8 s/h to purchase click on the "buy now" button to pay using PayPal or credit card Sold This is a view of one of the old cottages on Bald Head Island as you first drive up to it on the driveway. This is a small study I did on location to get the beautiful colors and shadows on the roof and side of the house. The ocean is just beyond it over the crest of the hill and the light reflecting off the ocean lit up the side of the house wonderfully.
